Crete: Diary

By Richard Higginbottom

These photographs were made on a 10-day trip to Crete, a Greek island, in July 2015. Most of the images are spontaneous, fleeting moments, acting as a response to the environments in which I found myself as I explored locations new to me with fresh eyes.

Travelling by car to discover the island and stopping at regular points of interest, I was uninhibited and used my eyes and camera as exploratory tools with which to discover and comprehend. These images are not prescribed or premeditated by any real fixed agenda; they are glimpses into a freedom, an experience of wandering, of stealing unknown pathways and making photographs along the way.
